Current music:It's A Fine Life - Bonnie Langford

Thoughts...
1. Sorry for long absence and rubbishness! Soon I shall catch up - I owe lots of people comments and long emails, and you shall get them!
2. Work very good but hardcore! The girl who usually does BBC2 isn't in this week, so I've been doing loads of her stuff. Good for me! Also, got shouted at by a BBC scheduler today! I feel I'm going up in the world. It totally wasn't my fault, though.
3. Commute is killing me slowly. Especially waiting in the cold at Acton Town for the horrible, mean District Line. Can't quite believe that I am daily spending three hours on the tube.
4. New Year was great. Went to [info]bunnyvon's. It was really great to see all the girls and hang out over the holiday. Miss you guys!
5. Saw Bonnie Langford in panto on Monday with [info]carawj. OMG!! It was so thrilling! We went to the stage door and I took Jazz at the Theatre to get signed, but when Bonnie mentioned it I just stood there like a freak instead of telling her how I've been listening to it non-stop since Sash got it me for Christmas. I am such a dork. And I'm usually quite calm in the presence of awesomeness.
6. Going to see La Sladen in panto on Sat! Exciting! Both this and the Langford panto are Peter Pan, so [info]carawj and I will be in a good position to compare...
7. Found a sandwich shop near work that does a cheese ploughman's on white!! That's it, I can never leave Ealing now.
8. Have been salivating over shelves and sofa beds on the Ikea website. Watch this space for pictures of my shiny new room, come payday.
9. Having my first proper piano lesson on Tuesday evening! Yay!
10. I want pie.

The District Line is the worst thing in the world, science fact. The two guys in my group going there were mocked mercilessly for four weeks until they cried. Good times.

Aww, that's mean. Isn't being on the thing punishment enough?

Aw, glad to hear things are going well for you! Never seen anyone so happy at being chewed out at work, but glad it was a good experience instead of a bad one!

Ouch, three hours on the tube. I had an hour commute each way for college, but that's worse, plus harsher weather. :P I hope you get an easier form of transpo soon!

I've gotten to see Sarah Jane Adventures now, thanks to a marathon! Now I'm totally hooked on it and have much love for Elizabeth Sladen too. :) Very jealous you get to go see her in a panto! (BTW, when I get to finally come visit Wales and/or England, I don't suppose I could go to a panto, could I? They sound like fun!)

Good luck on the piano lesson! I do enjoy playing, just way out of practice these days.

Oh, and I wish you pie too. :)

Well, it turned out fine for me in the end because he realised that it was his mistake...
OMG, yay for you getting into SJA! Isn't it fab? You should join the Sj comm here on LJ, they're a really friendly bunch! ([info]sarahjane_fic).
If you want to see a panto then you'd need to come over Christmas, they're very much a seasonal thing. But you totally should!
Have a lovely weekend!

It always feels good to be in the right and have the person yelling at you be in the wrong. :)

I was very pleasantly surprised how good SJA was. I had low expectations since it's geared toward kids, but they did really well with it. Now we just have to get season 2 over hear at some point. I'll check out the Community you sent. I probably don't need any more online groups to help me procrastinate on work ;) and I haven't seen any of the old Doctor Who from Sarah Jane's era, but I'll definitely start looking at it.

I was thinking a lot about you guys over Christmas, wondering what it's like in the UK, seeing all the Christmas specials on BBC America. Maybe someday I can be there during the holidays. I'm trying to think ahead to when I'll be afford a trip out there. I'm thinking once grad school's done and I have a full-time job, I should be able to do it by then, I'd think. :)

Enjoy your weekend too! Hope you have fun!

Yikes! How does it take 90 minutes each way to get from where you live to Edgware? Sheesh, PT must have gone significantly downhill since I last lived in London (which was, in all fairness, when you were about eight :P )

It's weird to read of the Langford - who was an irredeemable laughingstock amongst the kewl kids back in the day - being seen as tongue-tyingly awesome. The world really has moved on, mmm?

Piano? Ooooh!

Miss you. Must figure out our next voicecall time :-)

The fact that it's Ealing and not Edgware might have something to do with it... :P
A lot of the time is spent waiting for the District Line to go the last two stops... In a way it's quite good because I'm getting lots of reading done, but it's still a slog.

And the Bonnie love isn't a general thing, she's still mostly very underappreciated! I think it's a shame because she's a lot better performer than people give her credit for.

And yes, piano! I shall let you know what happens!

Ooh, we should do calling next week sometime, maybe? I shall try and figure out what the heck is actually going on with our landline...

D'oh! No idea what made me type Edgware. It's good that you're not going to the wrong suburb - that would add a lot of time to your journey :P

Possibly it was a you-had-to-be-there-then thing, but BL was perceived (and, for that matter, deliberately marketed) as a modern Shirley Temple, all twee curls and Pollyanna sweetness and impossibly wide-eyed childlike excitement. It didn't sit well, especially in the post-punk, anti-Thatcherite-rage '80s :D

I await Tales of Piano! And phoneage!

I see what you mean, and I think it's the hangover from that which stops people from taking her seriously now, which is a shame because she's really very good.
I felt like I'd already replied to this, but I guess I didn't? Hmmm...

Nope, you never did reply :D

Himself and I were talking over the weekend at one point about Mel, and both of us came to the conclusion that if BL had changed her appearance for the character - specifically the trademark hair, maybe by a ruse as simple as straightening it - she would have been taken more seriously. Or something :-)

Love your new blog! I've bookmarked it...

5. Blame the standing there on me - I am always tongue-tied in the presence of awesomeness, so clearly it rubbed off on you!
Also also also, I have been listening to nothing but that CD ever since! The Bonnie-love, it continues to grow apace. Cleo won't stop mocking me.
